Built to last. Treat it that way.
This isn't about being precious with your kit. It's about getting more kilometers out of it.
ZU4R apparel is engineered for performance under real conditions — wind, cold, sweat, and distance. The fabrics are chosen for compression, breathability, and durability, and they respond directly to how you treat them. Proper care keeps the fit accurate, the chamois effective, and the fabric performing exactly how it was designed to.
Before You Wash
- Clear the grit: Shake or gently brush off loose dirt, sand, and gravel. Abrasive particles caught in the wash cycle will degrade technical fibers and chamois padding over time.
- Pre-rinse: If you’ve been riding in wet or muddy conditions, rinse the garment under cold water first and let it drain before washing.
Washing
- Temperature: Machine wash at 30°C.
- Use a mesh bag: Always use a synthetic mesh laundry bag—never cotton. Cotton bags trap heat and create friction that damages technical fibers.
- Keep like with like: The same logic applies to what else is in the drum. Cotton, denim, and heavy fabrics act like sandpaper against performance wear. Wash your kit together or with similar synthetics.
- Flip it: Turn garments inside out before washing. This protects printed or bonded elements and ensures the areas against your skin get the most direct clean.
- Skip the softener: Never use fabric softener. It coats technical fibers and destroys moisture-wicking performance. Your apparel will feel softer, but it will smell worse.
- Color match: Wash with similar colors to prevent dye transfer.
Drying
- Hang dry only: Keep out of direct sunlight where possible. UV exposure degrades elastic fibers and causes colors to fade faster than normal wear ever would.
- No tumble drying: Do not tumble dry. The heat breaks down elastane and bonded seam tape, significantly shortening the lifespan of the garment.
What to Avoid
No bleach. No ironing. No dry cleaning. These will permanently damage technical fabrics and void any care-related warranty claims.
